Homeboard is a household command center: a wall-mounted display for your calendar, to-dos, meals, and countdowns, managed from your phone. This page explains what information Homeboard handles and what we do with it. The short version: we only use your information to run Homeboard for your household, and we never sell it.
What we collect
- Account details. Your email address and the display name you choose when you sign up.
- Household content you add. To-dos, meal plans, countdowns, scorecards, household member names and colors, and display settings.
- Google Calendar access (optional). If you choose to connect a Google account, we receive your Google account email address and read-only access to the calendars you allow. See the section below.
- Basic usage data. Homeboard uses Google Analytics to measure how the site and app are used. Like most websites, some of the code libraries Homeboard loads come from a public content delivery network (jsDelivr), which can see your IP address when your browser requests them. Homeboard's fonts are hosted by Homeboard itself, not loaded from Google Fonts.
How we use Google Calendar data
When you connect Google Calendar, Homeboard asks for read-only access. We use it for one purpose: showing your calendar events on your Homeboard display and in the countdown picker in your admin view.
- We cannot create, edit, or delete anything in your Google Calendar.
- You pick which of your calendars appear. Events are fetched when your display or admin view needs them, and Homeboard does not keep a copy of your calendar or its events in its database.
- To make the admin view load faster, the phone or browser you use for admin keeps a temporary copy of the current month’s event titles, dates, times, and locations in its own local storage for up to a few hours at a time. This copy stays on that device, is not sent to us, and is cleared when you sign out, disconnect Google Calendar, or change which calendars you use.
- The one exception is a countdown you create yourself. When you pick a calendar event to turn into a countdown, Homeboard copies that event’s title, date, start time, and location into the countdown you save, along with a reference to the event so it can be recognized later. You can edit or delete those details at any time, and the countdown does not update itself when the event changes. Nothing is ever written back to your Google Calendar.
- You can choose to show events you have marked private in Google Calendar as just “Busy” on your display. This is the default.
- The access token that lets Homeboard read your calendar is stored in encrypted storage and is never sent to your browser or your display.
- We do not use Google Calendar data for advertising, sell it, or share it with anyone else, and no person reads it except as needed to keep the service working, for security, or to follow the law.
Homeboard’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Who else handles your information
We use a small number of service providers to run Homeboard. They process data only on our behalf:
- Supabase for sign-in and for storing your household data.
- Netlify for hosting the Homeboard website and app.
- Google for Google Calendar and Google Analytics.
- Iconify for meal type icons. Icons are loaded from Iconify's public icon service, which can see your IP address, and if you search for an icon, your search words are sent to Iconify.
- Unsplash for countdown photos. If you search for a photo, your search words are sent to Unsplash.
We do not sell your personal information or share it for advertising.
Your choices and how to delete your data
- Disconnect Google Calendar any time in Homeboard under Settings › Integrations. Disconnecting deletes the stored access token. You can also remove Homeboard’s access from your Google account at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
- Delete your data. Email us at the address below and we will delete your account and your household’s data.
Security and children
We use reasonable safeguards to protect your information, including encrypted storage for Google access tokens. No online service can promise perfect security. Homeboard is meant for adults setting up a household display and is not directed at children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. If a change affects how we use Google Calendar data, we will ask for your permission again where required.
